The Department of Mathematics (DM) is a permanent teaching and research unit of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA FCT). DM carries out multiple activities in the field of Mathematics, ranging from teaching and research to promotion and dissemination, including lifelong learning and community service. he DM is composed of 70 tenured academic staff members holding PhDs.
The DM is responsible for the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Applied to Risk Management, the Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analysis and Engineering, the Master's Degree in Mathematics and Applications, the Master's Degree in Actuarial Mathematics, the Master's Degree in Mathematics Teaching in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and in Secondary Education, the Master's Degree in Statistics Statistics in Health, and the Doctoral Programme in Mathematics at NOVA. The DM also teaches introductory mathematics courses for various programmes at NOVA FCT.
The DM participates in joint doctoral programmes with Carnegie Mellon University (USA) and the University of Texas at Austin (USA).
The research carried out by DM academic staff is mostly integrated within NOVAMath at FCT/UNL. Some staff members belong to other research centres at FCT/UNL or to research centres at other universities in the Lisbon area.
ClubeMath is responsible for regular activities aimed at the promotion and dissemination of Mathematics.
